Betty Roberts
The Spinning Wheel Lady
Oroville,Washington
Betty Roberts has been making spinning wheels for over
25 years now. I saw her for the first time at the Washinton State Centennial
Celebration in 1989. I was so impressed by the craftmanship and beautiful
inlaid wheels, that I still remember them as if it were only yesterday.
This woman does incredible work! She has been honored twice by the Folk
Life Society, and is one of 12 women in the state to win the Governor's
Art award. Just this past summer she won Best of Show - Professional Art,
and Best of Show - Professional Woodworking at the Okanagan Fair.
Her spinning wheels come in almost any possible wood that
you could think of.
Beginners as well as accomplished spinners will treasure
these wheels. They have 6 different ratios, running from 1/9 to 1/45.
Her cotton wheel, the "Apple Blossom Special" has two
different spinning ratios and makes cotton spinning a breeze.
She also makes chairs, looms (tapestry to double wide)
and all related wood items;
plus Wild Flower Jewelry
